What I learned from this project is that while life was very different in many ways, the main morals in which people live by aren't entirely all that different. People still had morals to protect and to serve and to respect women. Many of the knights lived by this code of chivalry but one in particular chose to defy the rules and that led to his ultimate downfall. These were a moral set of rules they all followed. They weren't actually written down per say. The rules look similar to the moral codes of a modern day soldier or police officer. " To live by honour and glory.", "To protect the weak and defenseless.", "To respect those placed in Authority", "To respect the honour of women.". They were all bound by honor in what they believed in . Perhaps his biggest downfall is his never-ending return to adultery and such acts that bring him farther and farther from the true code of chivalry and less respect. Sir Lancelot inevitably eventually ended up committing adultery with Guinevere and finds himself trapped. It seems throughout all of his mistakes he never learned that they were all due to his desire for Guinevere. He was even willing to betray his closest friend, Arthur, to get what he wanted. He most likely didn’t see things going and ending as they did but it isn't as if he was willing to change anyway. These types of stories go to show what things where like and even then, the highly honored Knights of the round table were not always bound by the code of Chivalry. Even apparent in today's times are the people who constantly challenge the morals that most humans commonly live by. Obviously the main lifestyles are fundamentally different as today's armed forces don’t have chainmail or fight with swords as their main weapon. Life during this exact period was chaotic to say the least . Attacks and fights were part of everyday life. Even the kings most trusted knight would eventually turn against him, violating anything and everything he ever stood for. The human element has not changed since these times. Only the environments in which we all live in. People lied, cheated, and stole from each other. Today this happens on a much larger global scale effecting millions of people just as things that happened during that time period effected entire kingdoms. Sir lancelets lust and affair with Guinevere would cost King Arthur his life. The person he most likely trusted the most would be the one to defy and turn his back on him when he least expected it. " to live by honour and glory" was clearly and boldly defied in the face of the king. Life during these times must have been treacherous not knowing who could be trusted and who couldn’t. After King Arthur found out about the affair with Guinevere and Sir Lancelot and war broke out, without Sir Lancelot at his side, King Arthur was ultimately slain and him empire ended.
