About- Sir Lancelot (12th century) was known in his time as the greatest and the worst knight. He went on an unsuccessful quest for the Holy Grail. Sir Lancelot was King Arthur's most trusted Knight. He was also loyal friends with Sir Gawaine. The feudal system was prevalant during this time and is when the king grants land to his relatives in promise of providing them with military means. The wealthy and respected were granted many rights and privelages. It is bascially a big system of rights and priveleges. Just like the select few people who had supreme rights in the feudal system, womens rolls during that time were restricted some. Obviously the queen had many special rights. Women were completely controlled by their male spouse and diddnt have much say in anything. Beatings and humiliation were common for those who chose to defy the male they were married to. Jousting during the time of King Arthur was a way to prove manhood and worthiness. They were equipped with metal armor, a lance and a horse. The two jousters rode towards each other attempting to spear and knock the opponent off of their horse. These events were veiwed by many and is equivalent to todays sporting events. The code of chivalry was something all of the respected knights followed and vowed to believe. It sets the guidlines for how they should act and treat others. It made them promise to tell the truth and never to turn down the challenge from an equal opponent, and also to obey those placed in authority.
